How do I move leagues (data) from one computer to another?

  1. First the League Manager should be installed on both the source computer (computer you are copying data FROM) and the destination computer (computer you are copying data TO).
  2. BACKUP data from the source computer. Run League Manager, pull down the LEAGUE menu and select BACKUP DATA. Backup to a blank floppy disk. Take the disk out and open the tab on the disk to make sure it is write protected.
  3. RESTORE the data onto the destination computer. Put the Backup floppy disk in the destination computer's disk drive. Run League Manager, pull down the LEAGUE menu and select RESTORE DATA.

After you restore the data you will have on the destination computer exactly what you have on the source computer. Advanced users: League Manager backups all data into one file called LMDATA.ZZP. This file can easily be "emailed" to the destination computer to be restored.

Its important to remember, when you restore a backup...the data in the backup (leagues, courses, etc) is placed on your computer...any existing data is overwritten by the "restored" backup. In other words, restoring a backup DOES NOT MERGE info in the backup with data already on the computer...the restored backup REPLACES existing data on the computer with the backup.

How can I establish an initial handicap for my golfers?

Establishing an initial handicap can be done several ways. Some leagues...

  1. Roll over scores from last years league to establish handicaps. (If you used League Manager in previous year(s)...League Manager can automatically roll over golfer's scores to establish initial handicaps. See How do I transfer golfers from one league to another for info)
  2. Play practice round(s) to establish the starting handicap.
  3. Require golfers to submit a history of scores to establish a handicap.
  4. Use the first event's score to handicap the first event. League Manager can be set up to calculate an "instantaneous" handicap.
  5. Start with no handicap and play until they have enough scores to establish a "good" handicap, then retroactively handicap the past events played.
  6. Start by typing in an estimated handicap.

League Manager can basically start handicapping any way your league decides.

Obviously the more scores League Manager sees for a golfer the better it can start handicapping the golfer. To enter "practice/initial" scores for a golfer, double-click the golfer and type his/her scores in the "Add Practice Score" box.

To setup "how" League Manager calculates handicaps (number of scores handicap based on, handicap percent figure, number of high/low scores to drop, etc...) pull down the SETUP menu and select "Handicap Calculation Parameters". See pages 16-24 of manual for more info.

How do you insert a tournament, position, fun night, etc. into the schedule?

To set your schedule do the following...

  1. Select AUTOMATIC SCHEDULING on the SETUP menu.
Your schedule will appear. On the schedule the 3rd column is titled "Type". Event 1 should say "Auto-Pair 1", event 2 should say "Auto-Pair 2", event 3 should say "Auto-Pair 3", etc.
  2. To set a "Position", "Fun Night", "Vacation", etc...double-click the TYPE cell for the event you want to setup as a position night.
  3. The "Event Form" will appear. Click the option "Manual Pairing with custom description" and type "Position" in as the description. Click OK to close the form

Repeat steps 2 and 3 above for any other "Position", "Fun Night", "Vacation", etc..events.
  4. If you wish to hide the pairings for these events, pull down the DISPLAY menu (top left corner of screen) and select the option "Hide Pairings for Manual Events with Descriptions"

Tip: If your league skips a week due to a holiday (such as 4th of July), you do not need to "reserve" an event for the week that will NOT be played...simply change the dates of the events to reflect that one event is two weeks after the previous event.

Tip: The schedule can be sent to Microsoft Excel. To do this click the PRINT button, on the "Printing Options" form click the "Export to--> Excel" button. Save the schedule to any folder and load it into Excel.

How do I handle a rainout?

By far the easiest thing to do is NOTHING. Just postpone the event until next week. You may want to change the date of the event. Select "Manual Scheduling" on the SETUP menu. Double click the event's date and type in the new event date.

OR

Skip the event and tag a makeup onto the end of the season. Move to the next event to be played. (Don't enter anything in the rained out event.) At the end of the season when you're ready to makeup the rained out event, add an additional event to your season. Select "Manual Scheduling" from the SETUP menu and increase the "Events for the Season" by one. Next set the event "Type" to "Manual Pairing". Manually pair your teams according to how they were paired in the rained out event.

How do I handle a split season?

League Manager can handle any number of split seasons. To Split your season:

  1. Select "Range for Split Season" from the SETUP menu.
  2. Type in the range of events for your current split. This is the range of events considered for all calculations (except handicaps).
Note: This range can be changed at any time. If you do NOT have a split season use the default values .... 1 to (Number of events in your season)

Example:

Your league has a split season where events 1 to 10 are the first half and 11 to 20 the second half.

After you have completed events 1 to 10, set the event range ... 11 to 20.  Now only scores and points for events 11 to 20 will be used to calculate results.

Note:  At the end of the year you could change the range back to 1 to 20 to give results for the season total (both splits added together).  (Range can be changed at anytime.)
