How do you change the Home Course?
To set the home course:
- Select the SETUP menu and select "Roster Options".
- Click on the "Home Course"
box and select the correct course. Also select the correct
men's and ladies' tees.
To show this home course on the Handicap Labels:
- Go to Standard reports and select report #6, "Handicap Colored Labels".
- On the Report SETUP screen make sure the option "Print Home Course Handicap" is checked.
- Click the [Build Report] button to see the report.
How do I move rosters (data) from one computer to another?
- First, Handicap System should be installed on both the source computer (computer you are copying data FROM) and the destination computer (computer you are copying data TO).
- BACKUP data from the source computer. Run Handicap System, select the ROSTER menu and select BACKUP DATA. Backup to a portable device (flash drive) or network location.
- RESTORE the data onto the destination computer. Connect the flash drive to the destination computer or assure it is connected to the network. Run Handicap System, select the ROSTER menu and then select RESTORE DATA.
Note: If you are running Handicap System 2007 or later, you can accomplish the same task more easily with the Backup/Restore to Internet.
After you restore the data you will have on the destination computer exactly what you have on the source computer. Advanced users: Handicap System backs up all data into one file called HSDATA.ZZP. This file can easily be "emailed" to the destination computer to be restored.
It's important to remember: when you restore a backup, the data in the backup (rosters, golfers, courses, etc) is placed on your computer and any existing data is overwritten by the "restored" backup. In other words, restoring a backup DOES NOT MERGE info in the backup with data already on the computer - the restored backup REPLACES existing data on the computer with the backup.
Tip:
Did you know there is a
tutorial video that answers your question?
- Start Handicap System
- Click Help, and then Help Videos
- View the "Moving rosters (data) from one computer to another" video

Did you know you can always make a backup to your hard drive and copy the backup file to whereever you wish? To do so:
- Select Backup Data
- Click "Backup to another drive"
- Drop down "Save In" box and select DESKTOP.
- Click SAVE.
After it has saved the file, look on your desktop for the file HSDATA.ZZP. This is your backup file. Use Windows to copy (drag and drop) to any folder, drive, or even email it to somebody.
Why is there an "R" beside a golfer's handicap?
First you must be using USGA (United States Golf Association) or RCGA (Royal Canadian Golf Association) handicapping for this to occur. The "R" beside the handicap indicates that the handicap has been reduced using the USGA/RCGA Exceptional Tournament formula. The USGA changed this formula effective for 1999 and on. It's a long drawn out formula. See the USGA handicap manual section 10-3 for complete details. Or go to the USGA website at www.usga.org and look at their online USGA Handicap system manual. A golfer's tournament scores for the last 12 months are used to determine if he/she plays much better in tournaments than regular play and the handicap reduced accordingly. This player in question does much better in tournaments.
To see what tournament scores are being used to reduce the handicap:
- Highlight the golfer on the screen and click the "View Scores" button.
- The golfer scores will appear on the screen. The scores being used are highlighted in yellow. (Note: You may have to click the "Show All Scores" button and scroll down the screen to see the scores that are being used)
Why are some higher scores used for a golfer's handicap, and some lower scores left out?
First we will assume you are
not calculating a custom handicap where "low" scores are
discarded. A golfer's handicap is based on his/her best
"differentials," not the lowest scores.
For example, look at the following two scores:
80 on a course with 72 rating and 120 slope
78 on a course with 67 rating and 120 slope
Which is the better score? The 80 is, because it was played on a
course which is 5 strokes harder to play (72-67=5).
Differentials are calculated:
score - rating x (113 / slope)
80 - 72 x (113/120) = 7.5
78 - 67 x (113/120) = 10.4
80 is the better score.
To see a golfer's differentials quickly in Handicap System, click REPORTS and select report #5, "Handicap Sheet -
Individual". You will see each differential on the right side of
the report.
How do I transfer golfers from one roster to another?
To copy golfers from one roster to another:
- Select the TOOLS menu and select "Transfer Golfers between rosters"
- Select the roster to transfer GOLFERS FROM.
- Select the roster to transfer GOLFERS TO.
Tip: Create a roster called "Inactive" for inactive golfers. If a golfer becomes inactive, and there is a chance he/she may be reactivated in the future, move the golfer into the "Inactive" roster. If they ever need to be "re-activated", simply transfer them from the "Inactive" roster back to the roster they need to be re-activated in.
Why does an asterisk appear on some reports before a golfer's name?
An asterisk "*" indicates the golfer's handicap or index has changed since the last handicap calculation.
Tip: If you do not want to see these...after you calculate handicaps, just click the calculate button again and recalculate again. Because no handicap has changed since the last calculation (which was done a few seconds ago) the asterisks for all golfers will disappear.
Note: An asterisk beside a golfer's index or handicap means the index or handicap was not "calculated" (based on scores entered), but typed in manually.
Note: An asterisk beside a golfer's score means the score was used in calculating the golfer's handicap.
