Competent Karen keeps track of all her golf group's scores and handicaps.
She backs up her data to the internet or a cd weekly.
Careless Karen keeps track of all her golf group's scores and handicaps.
She never makes backups. "No need to," she says. "Nothing has ever happened to my computer."
When lightning strikes and her computer dies, guess whose golf group is happier?
LEAGUE MANAGER
Dear Debbie
Dear Debbie,
This is my first year as league secretary. I got the software set up and
running great during our first month of golf. Now some league members
want to be a subs instead of a regular players. Or they want to drop out
of the league altogether.
All these changes are messing up the team scores and positions/rankings.
It's a nightmare....
Help!
Too many moves in Motown
Dear 'Moves',
Before you start moving players around, it's ALWAYS best to
make a
backup. Really, I insist!
You probably want to lock your scores FIRST, so any points that have
already been rewarded won't be refigured/redistributed. You'll need to
do this in each event that has already been played. (Look under 'Tools')
The program will give you many options for moving players -
permanently/temporarily, swapping between teams or moving to the
substitute list.
To permanently replace players with another player or sub, check out
this article on the knowledgebase:
To permanently remove a player from your league, go to Event #1,
highlight the player you'd like to remove and click on 'Edit' on your
toolbar, then select 'Remove (player) from league'.
After you get everyone moved/removed, you may need to
reduce the number
of teams in your league. (Remember, the program insists on an even
number of teams!)
Get your groove back,
Debbie
LEAGUE MANAGER
Your league has split...
Seasons that is! Some leagues play their seasons in two
halves...sort of like an academic semester system. There's no reason
a league couldn't have tri-mesters! League Manager provides the
ability to have event by event results as well as cumulative results
for any portion or the whole season. You could provide winners for
the first half, the second half, and the season as a whole. It's
very simple using the option, "Range
for split season," under the Setup menu.
TOURNAMENT mANAGER
Make a change for multiple players
Sometimes you want to make a global or multiple-player change in
Tournament Manager. Luckily it can be done. Suppose you have players
in different Tee Groups? You can sort the players, highlight a group
of players and then put them all into the same Tee Group. Or set the
group of selected players to all appear in the same roster. Any
field of information that is available to you by double clicking on
a player's name can be changed for more than one player at a time.

HANDICAP sYSTEM
Golf handicap formula in plain English
Many golfers play in leagues and tournaments and leave the "complex
math" to others whom they trust most of the time until something makes
no sense. Calculating a handicap is a tiresome task, if done by hand.
But it's not higher math. Most people could do the math, but
understandably don't bother. If you're curious enough to know how
handicapping is done, we have an article that will
explain the USGA
method to you in
plain English. Take a look. GolfSoftware.com's Handicap System can
provide a USGA Index, RCGA Factor or a custom handicap.
WEB DESIGN TIPS
Web design tip #1 - Add video to your website?
Do you have some video footage from your league or tournament?
Maybe there are some golf-related YouTube.com videos that you would
like to add to your website. There are two methods for both Website
Designer users and for Website Builder users; one
very simple method
and one less simple, but cooler...like this:
Find out how to put video on your Website Designer or Website Builder
created site in our knowledge base article, "Putting
video on your website."
Web content tip #2 - Less putts, more accurate drives, better short
game...
What do the players in your golf group need most to improve their
golf game other than get a younger body? Do they need...
Help your players with video lessons, humor and shows available at
YouTube.com. The above article tells you how to include a video on your
golf website. Go to the
golf section
of YouTube.com to find some videos to add to your website.

GOLF QUOTATIONS
Golf appeals to the idiot in us and the child. Just how childlike golf players become is proven by their frequent inability to count past five.
- JOHN UPDIKE
I
have a tip that can take five strokes off anyone's golf game: it's
called an eraser.
- ARNOLD PALMER
The
number of shots taken by an opponent who is out of sight is equal to
the square root of the sum of the number of curses heard plus the
number of swishes.
