Are You Ready for Online Signup?

When we released Website Builder earlier this year, we told you that we would have an online signup feature. It will be ready late June, and we will add this feature to all Website Builder accounts.

By creating an online signup page, your players will be able to register online and you will then be able to import your registrants into League Manager and Tournament Manager.

LEAGUE MANAGER

Point Calculation Parameters

To view the Point Parameters form, choose “Point Calculation Parameters” from the Setup menu. See help system topic.

Activate Scorecard (Enter hole-by-hole scores)

To enable automatic point calculations make sure “Activate Scorecard” is marked.  If you choose to use point calculations, League Manager lets you enter scorecards (hole-by-hole scores) for each player.  All information—points, gross, net, adjusted scores, pars, birdies, and eagles are then calculated and awarded automatically.  Plus a large range of reports are available, including skins, ringer reports, and course results.  If you turn off the scorecard—gross scores, adjusted gross scores, points, pars, birdies, and eagles must be calculated manually and then entered.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND entering scorecards hole-by-hole!  It’s much faster than entering total scores...and you’ll be surprised at the number of scorecards it catches that are incorrectly calculated.  Also, most reports that rely on hole information will be disabled (skins report, ringer reports, course report, etc.)  Plus, YOU end up doing all the work, not the computer!

LEAGUE MANAGER

Start New Season with Last Season's Data

Many leagues will use last season's settings and players, as well as scores for handicaps, to start this year's league. League Manager allows you to transfer last season's data to use for your new season this year. Please see the FAQ titled, Transfer Golfers from One League to Another. Please note the video available for this topic at the FAQ.

LEAGUE MANAGER

Handicap Calculation Parameters

The purpose of handicapping is to ensure equal competition among players of different abilities. League Manager provides a handicap using the 3 following methods:

  1. Automatic Handicapping.  A handicap is calculated using the criteria you specify on the “Handicap Parameters” form under the Setup menu.
  2. Manual Handicapping.  You always have the option to type in any handicap for a player at anytime.  To enter a handicap, double-click the player to view his/her Player Information Form.  Type in the handicap you want the player to have for the current event.
  3. No Handicapping.  Select “Do NOT calculate a handicap” for the calculation mode on the “Handicap Parameters” form.  A handicap will not be calculated.  All players will have a handicap of 0 (scratch) or whatever you type in.

For more information, see the help topic.

WEB DESIGN TIPS

Web Design Tip #1 - Protect Sensitive Information

Putting names, addresses, phone numbers and other personal information out on the web allows everyone in the world to see it. Just like the saying goes with email: "Don't send an email you don't want the world to see", so goes putting information on the web. Pictures and personal information can remain secure by adding password protection to a sensitive web page. In Website Builder, you can do this by selecting the page properties button and then adding a password to the page. There's a Website Builder help topic that discusses this: Password Protect a Web Page

Web Design Tip #2 - Design for Your Audience's Screen

You've just taken a week off work (or playing golf) to build your perfect website. It looks great on your 20" screen, so after you tell your league about the site, you're surprised to hear that most of your group can't see all of your site. The problem may be that you have designed your site for a wider display than what others have. Most screens have a resolution of 1024 pixels wide or more these days. But if you have a larger display, you may need to think through your design. We have a support article for this: Dealing with General Website Design Challenges.

SITE OF THE MONTH

Hawaii Men's Golf Club

Hold on to your mouse. This site will knock you for a loop. Not only did they choose to have a site with personality (one of the brighter color schemes), but they also clearly have something going on as this men's golf league wears MuuMuus during their end of season tournament! Check them out.

GOLF QUOTATIONS

The income tax has made more liars out of the American people than golf has.

- WILL ROGERS

Golf is a game in which you yell "fore," shoot six, and write down five.

- PAUL HARVEY

Baseball players quit playing and they take up golf.  Basketball players quit, take up golf.  Football players quit, take up golf.  What are we supposed to take up when we quit?
