Reducing Photo File Size

Sometimes when you attempt to insert a digital photo in Website Designer, you will receive the message that the image file size is too large (file size in KB or MB; not the photo dimensions). In this case you will  have to reduce the file size of the photo to 150 KB or lower.

  2. Select All Programs
  3. Select Accessories
  4. Click on Paint
  5. Click on File and then Open
  6. When the Open Dialog Box appears locate the file you wish to reduce and click the Open button
  7. With the image displayed in the Paint program click on the Image menu option and then click on Stretch/Skew
  8. The Stretch/Skew window has two options in the Stretch section--Horizontal and Vertical
  9. Enter a number less than 100 into both the Horizontal and Vertical fields
  10. Be sure to enter the same number into both fields.

Using Windows XP "Send To"

Note: This method will only work if you use Outlook, Outlook Express or some other email program based on your local computer. If you use online or web mail such as @yahoo.com, @hotmail.com, etc., this method will not work.

On Windows XP you can right-button-click on the image file and select "Send To" and then, "Mail Recipient."

In the "Send Pictures via E-Mail" window, select "Make all my pictures smaller." Click on "Show more options..." and select "Small." Then email the photo to yourself. This "should" reduce the file size of your image to under 150 KB..."should" being the operative word.
